FAQs

How old does a child need to be to start lessons?

There is no specific age that is best when starting lessons. A child needs to have some small motor skills (ability to use scissors is a good indication of this), recognize letters A-G and know them in order, and be able to focus on a task for 5-10 minutes at a time. It is best if the child shows interest in music and particularly in the piano.

Do I need to have an instrument at home?

You will need to have at least a keyboard at home for your student to practice on between lessons. A tuned, acoustic piano is best, however there are several good models of full-length digital pianos with weighted keys. At the very least you will want to have a full-length (88 keys) keyboard on a keyboard stand.

Can I start lessons after the school year has already begun?

Yes! Lessons can begin any time during the year.

Do you teach lessons in the summer?

Absolutely! I know schedules can be crazy in the summer, so summer lessons are given in an ala carte fashion. Students can sign up for lesson times that work with vacations, camps and other activities.

Do you teach adults?

I love teaching adults and have taught many adults who are returning to the piano after having learned as a child, and also adults who are brand-new to the piano.
