Performance Opportunities

I believe public performances are a wonderful way for a student to advance in ability and confidence.  At Ice Piano Studio, performances are always upbeat and positive as we gather in community to support and cheer each other on. There are two recital performances a year in which students are invited to participate - our casual and festive Christmas party and our more formal spring recital.

In addition to recitals, there are many local opportunities for students to practice and perfect their public performance skills.

  • Achievement Day is an evaluation, not a competition, consisting of a written theory test, an ear-training test, a technical skills evaluation, and the performance of two pieces. The Achievement Day syllabus is comprised of thirteen skill levels, from the early beginner to the advanced level.  The student is awarded a medal and a certificate for the completion of the evaluation.
  • A highlight for many students is the annual Multiple Piano Festival, sponsored by the Boulder Area Music Teachers Association. It is a concert of piano duet music performed on twelve grand pianos simultaneously with as many as twenty four students (two at each piano) playing together on a piece led by a conductor. It try is an amazing opportunity for students, and one of the only festivals of its kind on the entire state.  Please look at the Gallery for lots of fun pictures of this event!

  • The Piano Guild was founded in 1929 and exists to "establish definite goals and awards--in noncompetitive auditions--for students of all levels, from the earliest beginner to the gifted prodigy."  Those students participating in Guild auditions prepare a program of two to ten pieces to be played for evaluation by a judge.  Because Guild auditions are held in early May, students are able to perform a good portion of music they have worked on throughout the year.  This helps students and parents gauge long-term advancement year to year and gives students a goal to work towards.  The student is awarded a certificate and a pin for their achievement.  Students performing a ten-piece program are also awarded membership in the American College of Musicians.

  • At Ice Piano Studio, we love to use our talents to bless others. Periodically throughout the year students perform at local hospitals and area retirement centers to spread the gift of music to our community.

  • Students are encouraged to enter competitions, festivals or other events of their own choosing.  I am more than happy to work with students who are entering these events outside of the studio.
